357700391 It appears as if everybody’s favorite kids’ doll Barbie had some not-so-squeaky-clean beginnings. In the new book Monster: The Big, Bad World of Mattel, author Jerry Oppenheimer charts the famed toy company’s origins, dishing up tasty tid bits such as Barbie designer Jack Ryan’s (once married to Zsa Zsa Gabor) penchant for hosting classic ’70s swinger parties in his Bel Air lair and company co-founder Ruth Handler’s indictment on fraud charges. Oppenheimer — who most recently penned an expose about domestic diva Martha Stewart — leaves no stone (or action figure) unturned.
