Jungle Jews

iquitossquare1 New York City’s American Sephardi Federation is currently hosting the 13th annual Sephardic Jewish Film Festival, a week-long cine-orgy ending on February 12th. The roster include unusual Jewish-themed flicks from across the globe and in Hebrew, English, Ladino and even Amharic. We’re keen to catch a viewing of The Fire Within: Jews in the Amazonian Rainforest, a just-completed documentary detailing the little-known Jewish community in Iquitos, Peru (above), which was a rubber-producing boomtown in the late 19th century. We met film-maker Lorry Salcedo Mitrani in Lima last year and are keen to witness his work.
