On the Move

pumaretail_prefab6 This spring German shoe-maker Puma is launching its own version of “mobile” retail — its new Puma City flagship. Designed by New York’s uber-cool Lot-Ek architect, the “shop” was fashioned from 24, 40-foot shipping containers which have been festooned in Puma’s tell-tale orange hue. Launching in Boston in April, the bijoux boutique will travel via ship to cities worldwide. Puma City is the latest move for the perennially-popular brand, which last year brought Cypriot designer Husein Chalayan on board as its new Creative Director. Puma’s new shop taps into two ascendant fashion fads — shops crafted from recycled materials (including Freitag’s two year-old flagship in Zurich) and temporary “pop-up” stores embraced by everyone from Target to Comme des Garcons.
