Haute Hotel

2008_12_cooperreveal If we’ve been a bit slow with the postings today — forgive us. Transracial spent the night downtown on a sneak-peek Staycation at the newly opened Cooper Square Hotel in the East Village. Delayed for…like…forever, the hotel has now opened just below Astor Place and is quite a stunner. Designed by Ecuador-born Carlos Zapata architects, the 21-story/145-room property includes sprawling gardens, a private screening room and soon-to-debut restaurant, Table 8, from Los Angeles. Most interesting is Zapata’s clever combo of an old mid-19th century tenement building into the hotel’s overall design — a necessity after its two long-time (and rent-controlled) residents refused to leave their homes. Although only open for a few weeks now, the hotel is already hopping with rail-slim Fashion Week types and as evidenced from the photo above, served as the site of a recent X-rated photo shoot.
