788px-peasant_family_of_ramallah_1900-1910 Artist Emily Jacir — raised in Saudi Arabia, high schooled in Italy, colleged in Dallas and Memphis — will be one of six Palestinian artists representing Palestine in the upcoming 53rd Venice Biennale in May. Jacir — who splits her time between New York and Ramallah — is a long-time leader in the West Bank art scene and won the Golden Lion award for an artist under 40 at 2007’s Biennale. This year marks the first time Palestine will have an official, national delegation at the event, and their presence there will include both art-related presentation and symposia. Her work — including the piece above — tackles issues of exile and landlessness from a mostly Palestinian POV.
