The $28 Million Chair

original Despite the deepening economic recession, a New York art collector paid an astounding $28 million for the chair above. Yes — a chair! The piece — by Irish designer Eileen Grey from 1917 — was the costliest item sold during Christies recent auction of furniture and collectibles form the collection of French fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent, who died last year. Originally estimated to take between $2 and $3 million, the chair will add to furniture fan Steven Greenberg’s already impressive collection important 20th century decorative pieces.
