Rwanda: 15 Years After the Terror

5-13111

Among the dozens of galleries we visited at the Armory Show today, New York’s Aperture Foundation made one of the most memorable impressions.

Beyond their stellar collection of photographic works and photography books, we were struck by the images above — which are part of Aperture’s new exhibition Intended Consequence: Rwandan Children Born of Rape.

The show — which debuts tomorrow — arrives at the same time as the 15th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide, which saw nearly 1 million people killed in barely 100 days. The photos are by photo-journalist Jonathan Torgovnik, who has made his career shooting complex global imagery for numerous quality international publications.

Intended Consequence is a tough — but necessary — look at the deadly results of post-colonial tribal conflict paired with international indifference.
