Asian luxury spa masters Six Senses have just opened their latest indulgent outpost — the firm’s first Middle East branch in the
desert kingdom of Jordan. Their Evason Ma’In Hot Springs is actually a new and improved version of an existing old-skool spa given new life with a $12 million face lift.

There are 97 guest rooms and 10 spa treatment rooms — all some 900 feet below sea level a short drive from the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth. And capping ths desert delight is a thermal waterfall — yes waterfall! — which shoots torrents of hot water down to a rocky ravine below.

The Six Senses is just one of a handful of fancy spas that have recently opened in Jordan — which have lured the likes of Renee Zellweger, endless Arabian royals and local diplomat types.

All are within easy driving distance of the Jordanian capital, Amman.

And while some are fabber than others, their off-the-beaten-path location makes each a retreat waiting-to-happen.

We should know — we’ve tried them all. And you should too!

  1. Lowest point in the world?! It’s a perfecct match–and antidote–for our currnet global economic woes. We shall add Jordan to our list of Spa destinations in the forthcoming wellness travel book, Beauty Beyond Borders. Thanks!
