According to today’s travel biz buzz, British Airways and Iberia will imminently announce their long-planned merger. The pairing of the British and Spanish aviation giants — in development for over a year — would see BA own 55 percent of the new firm, Iberia 45 percent.

The plan is entering final negotiations at this very moment. The only remaining challenge is contending with BA’s sagging stock price — which makes has diluted its value vis-a-vis its potential Spanish partner.

We’ll see if BA chief Willie Walsh and Iberia jefe Fernando Conte (above) are still smiling next week.
