FOR SALE: First Ever African-American Comic

The first-ever comic written by Black folks for Black folks is now up for auction. According to reports, the ultra-rare copy of All-Negro Comics No. 1 is now up for bidding as part of the ComicConnect Event Auction through the end of the week.

The comic (cover, above) dates to 1947, originally sold for 15 cents and is the handiwork of Orrin C. Evans, an African American journalist from Philadelphia.

The comic’s rarity owes to the series lasting just one issue.

No word on estimated sales price — but we’re keeping watch.

I wonder the contrast between that and Memin Penguin which was the first African-Mexican comic that was not well recieved in the US.ín_Pinguín
