FOR SALE: Gianni Versace’s Goodies

Just weeks after the stratospheric sale of designer Yves Saint Laurent’s life-time collection of objets, Sotheby’s is set to auction off yet another fashion-world arty assemblage: Paintings, Furniture and Works of Art from the Gianni Versace Collection.

Starting on Wednesday, Sotheby’s London branch will sell of 550 pieces from Versace’s luscious Italian villa on the shores of Lake Como.

The haul is expected to rake in just under $3 million and includes everything from $150 bronze and marble busts to $50,000 plaster casts by famed sculptor Antonio Canova.

As we all are aware, Versace was gunned down by psycho-dude Andrew Cunanan in 1997 in front of his Miami manse — one of several luxury properties he owned throughout the world. The contents of those houses were sold shortly after his death, but the Versace family held on to Villa Fontanelle for some years, giving it up for sale only last year, when it was purchased by a Russian businessman.
