British DJ Goldie is best known for his high-profile club gigs and records. But the 43 year-old Brit also has a surprisingly fertile side gig as a painter. Indeed, long before he was spinning tunes, Goldie — who is half Jamaican/half Scottish and born as Clifford Price — was spraying and tagging walls all over the Midlands, where he was raised.

Now, as he matures and mellows, Goldie is clearly taking his art more seriously — so serious he’s decided to auction off a collection of his pieces at London’s Maverik Showroom.

On display through April 26, the works — including 2008’s Apocalypse Angel (above) — total 78 in all. There are 67 formal paintings plus 11 one-off screen prints. Some are crafted from spray paint. Others are totally bad-ass and painted on riot police shields.

The works are expected to fetch anywhere from about $400 to $20,000.
