UP FOR AUCTION: Frank Gehry’s Tuyomo Bench

Uber-architect Frank Gehry designed the above Tuyomo bench, which made its debut at the recent Salone del Mobile in Milan. Created from undulating aluminum, the bench weighs some 122 pounds and was manufactured by Spanish firm Emeco from 80 per cent recycled metal. Indeed, its name — Tuyomo — means “yours and mine” Spanish.

Sounds good!

The real news, however, is that the one-of-a-kind bench is up for auction at Sotheby’s on June 12 in NYC where it is expected to fetch between $250,000 and $350,000. It’s a lot for a bench, but the sale’s proceeds benefit Hereditary Disease Foundation, whose research fund was established by the Gehry family following the loss of their daughter Leslie Gehry Brenner.

We hope it sells high!
